Giving Back: Why We’re Helping John Eastwood Hospice

At LawnTec, we’re not just about keeping lawns looking great. We believe in community, family, and giving back. That’s why my son Sam and I have committed to helping John Eastwood Hospice by providing professional lawn care for their gardens at no cost to them.

Why This Means So Much to Me

John Eastwood Hospice holds a very special place in my heart. In 2010 and 2012, both my cousin and my mum received end-of-life care at the hospice. During those difficult times, I saw first-hand the kindness, compassion, and dedication of the staff.

They didn’t just look after my loved ones. They supported our entire family through some of the hardest moments of our lives. That’s something you never forget.

“John Eastwood Hospice provided incredible care for my mum and cousin in their final days. The kindness and support they gave to our family meant the world to us. Having experienced that, I know how important it is to have a peaceful space where families can spend time together. This is just our way of saying thank you.”

Creating a Peaceful Outdoor Space

Hospices are about more than just medical care. They are places where families come together, where moments of peace matter, and where the smallest comforts can make a big difference.

One of those comforts is a well-kept outdoor space. A place where families can sit, take a breath, and feel a moment of calm. That’s why Sam and I, along with Steve, have taken on the responsibility of maintaining the hospice’s lawns, ensuring they remain healthy, green, and inviting all year round.

The Power of Green Spaces

We all know that being in nature feels good, but did you know there’s real science behind it?

✔️ Green spaces reduce stress – Studies show that spending time in nature lowers cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for stress.

✔️ Being outdoors boosts mood – Research has found that people who spend just two hours a week in green environments report significantly better mental well-being.

✔️ Nature helps us feel calm – The Biophilia Effect is the idea that humans naturally feel more at peace when surrounded by green spaces.

✔️ The colour green itself is soothing – There’s a reason hospitals and healthcare settings use greenery. It helps people feel balanced and relaxed.

By caring for the hospice gardens, we’re not just looking after the grass. We’re helping to create an environment that brings peace and comfort to patients, families, and staff.

Our Commitment to the Hospice

We’ve pledged to keep the hospice’s lawns in top condition, completely free of charge. This includes:

Regular lawn health checks
Seasonal fertilisation to keep the grass thriving
Weed and moss control
Aeration to improve soil and root health
Ongoing maintenance to ensure the gardens stay beautiful

“The work they do at John Eastwood Hospice is incredible, and this is just a small way for us to give back,”

Why Giving Back Matters

We’ve always been proud to be a family-run business serving North Nottinghamshire. The local community has supported us over the years, and we believe it’s important to give back whenever we can.

As the seasons change and the hospice’s gardens flourish, we’re reminded that small acts of kindness rooted in care and community can make a truly meaningful difference.
